Football Offensive Line Drills Guidelines For Implementing Them Yourself

Most people will have differing opinions when you ask them what the most important position is on a football field. Some will more than likely say the quarterback, and some will tell you the name of another position. However would any of these positions really be able to score effectively without the offensive linemen?

Being in shape plays a huge role in these linemen's lives. It is essential that they get in shape and stay in shape for their careers and for their positions on the team. If there happens to be one person who can't keep up that is potentially a problem for the rest of the team.

One of the commonly used line drills includes using a lineman and 2 defensive lineman on a hill. The point of the exercise is for the lineman to drive the other two up the hill while swapping between them on the command of a whistle. This helps teach the lineman how to engage quickly and with a lot of speed and power. The whistle acts as a way to shift their attention onto another possible defender as quickly as possible. Doing it on the hill of course helps to build more muscle and stamina.

There is a second very common exercise that the linemen practice that most of us have seen on TV at one point or another. It is a drill using the blocking shield. This shield looks like a pad that is up right and attached to a small metal structure. Usually someone is standing on the metal structure to give it weight and resistance. The linemen than have to push this shield as quickly as they can backward with the person on top of it.

As you can see these football offensive line drills are anything but easy and involve a lot of effort on the players part. This is how the players are built into perfect football players.

Buying online tickets cut the consumer stress level in half by avoiding the long lines at the stadium. The arduous task of buying tickets at the stadium can end in disappointment because tickets are not guaranteed or the seating availability of the remaining tickets may not be the best. Hello Minnesota, My Name is Brett

It's mid-May and Spring is in the air; the grass has had its first mowing, the magnolia tree in my yard has bloomed, baseball is fully under way....and NFL fans have begun a ritual that has become an annual rite of Spring - speculating about whether or not Brett Favre will play again this fall.

The rumor mill has begun and this year it's hovering squarely over Minnesota. It began a few weeks ago with football analysts suggesting that "if" Brett wanted to play again he might consider the Vikings. Early last week we learned that Favre asked the Jets to relinquish their rights to him, which they did, but allegedly it was so he could simply take advantage of a retirement package the Packers were offering. Minnesota Head Coach Brad Childress came out and insisted that nobody in the Vike's organization had any contact with Favre, but left the door open by adding that they "talk about everything". Today we're hit with the dual announcements that Mark Wilf is interested and Favre has been throwing to some high school receivers.

In case you're unable to connect the dots let me do it for you. Brett Favre will be taking the field in September wearing the purple and gold of the Minnesota Vikings.

If you're a Minnesota fan this should not be good news for you. Brett Favre was one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game; there's no argument about that, but the key word is "was". Last year's comeback with the Jets was an embarrassment for Favre and cost Eric Mangini his job. If the Vikings make the same series of mistakes this year, it will make Tavaris Jackson a fan favorite and Brad Childress public enemy number one. In fairness to Favre, let me explain.

Like many NFL teams, the Jets began preparing for the 2008 season with the mentality that they were just missing that "one key piece". It just so happens that piece they thought they were missing was a quarterback. They thought Chad Pennington was washed up and Kellen Clemens wasn't ready to go. They may have been right about Clemens but Pennington proved them wrong by having a great season with Miami; but back to my point.

The Jets had a solid running back in Thomas Jones who was coming off 3 consecutive seasons with 1,000+ yards. With Faneca, Mangold and Ferguson on the line, Jones was gaining yards and scoring touchdowns; even the receivers were sharing the ball. All was well in New York as long as games were close and the Jets were leading. But when the pressure was on, the coaching staff scrapped the idea of team offense, forgot they had a running game, and started playing "Brett Ball". They asked the aging veteran to carry the team when he didn't have to.

The "Brett Ball" strategy not only cost the Jets some very important games, including the Seattle loss that effectively knocked them out of the playoffs, but it also demoralized the team. Criticism of Favre began to move through the locker room and come out publicly in interviews. By the end of the season Favre was not the same golden boy that brought such excitement to the Meadowlands on opening day.

And now we have the Vikings looking for one last final piece to get them to the Superbowl. But do they need it?

They have arguably the best running game with Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor, capable receivers with Berrian and Rice, and a good QB to develop for the future in John Booty. They have upgraded a defense that played great last year, especially against the run. They have all the ingredients to go deep in the playoffs if they can learn to play disciplined football. Yet the one component that scares me is Brad Childress. He came from the "pass first" Philadelphia Eagles where he was the offensive coordinator for six seasons. I get the strange feeling he would still be pass happy in Minnesota if he thought he had a capable QB. With Favre in the lineup the temptation might be too hard to resist. Sunderland Vs. Portsmouth - Both Has 50 - 50 Chances

It's the match that is going to happen on Monday at 18th of May. Both playing sides have recently lost two matches, and they must be to have a strong come back so that they can improve their table position. With the help of this match one of them can improve its position in the league table and can increase its win numbers by wining this match. In last match Sunderland was crushed by Chelsea so it would be a tough task for them to lift themselves for this match. On the other hand, Portsmouth was a bit unlucky in their last match. As they dominant the whole match but remain unlucky as they missed several golden opportunities of scoring goals. Therefore, comparatively it would be easy for Portsmouth to boast up their side for this match either than Sunderland.

Sunderland started out the season slowly and everyone is expecting that they would improve their game and would perform better than the previous season. However, they have shown worse performance as compared to the last season's performance. They simply disappointed their fans when they lose match badly from Stoke by 5-0. This kind of defeat is not expected from Sunderland, but it's the game and anything can happen. Even though no one is expecting such kind of crushing defeat from Chelsea as well but Sunderland did it again. There are some reports that three players of Sunderland namely Diouf, Cisse and Chimbonda were out in the disco just before 48hrs of the Chelsea match. Due to these thing fans were not happy at all with their team, and they want answer from their team on displaying such kind of performance. There is only one player who can turn the tables in the favor of Sunderland and that person is Ex-United Captain, Roy Keane. He is the only person who can change everything in the favor of the team.

On the other hand, Portsmouth remains a bit unlucky as they lost their home game against Wigan. They got number of chances to score a goal, but they didn't convert them in the goals. The hosts missed the chances, and as a result they were punished by the opposition as the winning single goal was scored by them in just injury time. From the last match, it has been clearly opened that Portsmouth has to improve their finishing as they made many chances to score but all they were lacking was their finishing. Among those chances, there were many open and clear chances as well but due to lack of finishing, they didn't able to score even a single score.

Therefore, both teams have similar chances to win the match but to some extent Portsmouth has some slightly edge on Sunderland. As they only have to work on their finishing and except that thing. They are good in everything but Sunderland has to do a lot of work on their game. Only this is the way through which they can record another win in their League Stats.

Chelsea Upbeat To Demolish Blackburn

Chelsea looks in a confident mood to beat Blackburn rovers on Sunday. The Londoners, after their controversial exit from the champion's league, destroyed the Gunners at the Emirates and Blackburn rovers are the next in line to face the Blues backlash from their most bitter defeat this season. Chelsea's response in the London derby was the response of the champions. They inflicted the heaviest home defeat of the Gunners at home in over 70 years to end their 21- match unbeaten premier league record.

Guus Hiddink's men have now confirmed their champion's league group stage berth and would like to end the season on a high. Their 4-1 hammering of the Gunners shows that they have that strong mentality to come out fighting. The Blues have Nicolas Anelka, the second highest goal scorer in their line-up along with the power pack midfield of sensational English midfielder Frank Lampard, German captain Michael Ballack and Ghana's superstar midfielder Michael Essien. Malouda has been more than a handful to from the left frank. He has been a constant threat for the defenders and is surely to start. The defense had a tough early part of the match at the Emirates but with the likes of inspirational captain John Terry and Brazilian Alex are rock solid at the back. Ashley Cole and Bosingwa are in smashing form at the flanks and will be a constant threat for the Blackburn rovers.

The only problem the Dutch manager has is the inclusion of once their key striker Didier Drogba. He has been out of form and was subject much of the criticism for the loss against Barcelona in the champions' League semifinals for his couple of clear cut missed chances. Blackburn rovers are fresh from their relegation battles which they have been fighting virtually for the whole season. Sam Allardyce will be visiting Stamford Bridge in a confident mood with relegation threats now almost over and a sweet win over Portsmouth where they kept a clean sheet. The Big Sam has South African Benni McCarthy to look to as he is in smashing form. The change of central defender Samba at the upfront has been working for the manager as well.

Pederson has been in good form and marshalling the midfield well in the last couple of matches. He has promised that as now the survival battle is over, they would like to end their hard fought campaign in style. El Hadji-Diouf can be another threat to the Londoners. The controversial striker has not been the fans most loved player but has been one of the keys for the manager. The main concerns for the Blackburn rovers will be the defense, they have conceded 35 goals in the away matches. There will be lots of work for the likes of Andrews, Givet, Nelson and Warnock. A clean sheet in the last match may have given them some confidence, but that they would have to be at their best to stop the red hot Chelsea.

Top 10 Controversial NFL Players

Adam Jones - Free Agent

Pacman Jones is to the NFL is what Rachel Alexandra is to the Preakness odds: the most talked-about contributor. After a long list of off-field issues that include felony vandalism and several arrests for disorderly conduct, he was involved in nightclub shootings in both Atlanta and Las Vegas. He's already spent one year out of football due to suspension and he'll probably spend more time vacationing, as no one really wants a piece of this troublemaker.

Plaxico Burress - Free Agent

If Jones is Rachel Alexandra, then Plaxico Burress is the Eight Belles of Preakness betting. Like Eight Belles, Burress also had a "leg injury" when he shot himself with a loaded, unlicensed gun. Good news is that while he survived it - he didn't exactly help his public relations cause. Burress was cut from his team and nobody wants to touch him with a 10-foot pole. He's on the waiver-wire and should be facing a long league-imposed suspension.

Sebastian Janikowski - Oakland Raiders

Let's kick it back old school, as it's hard to forgive and forget about Oakland Raiders first-round pick Sebastian Janikowski. Before Janikowksi reached the NFL, he already had a good resume of bar fights and police officer briberies. But the best part came when he was busted with the drug GHB, which is used for date rape. Throw in a DUI and this guy could easily be leading this race.

Michael Pittman - Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Running back Michael Pittman's wheels may not be what they used to be, and his family is happy for that. Once, after Pittman and his wife had one of those family altercations, she took their two-year-old kid, got in the car and drove off for safety purposes. That was until Pittman caught up to them in his Hummer SUV and rammed them off the road into a ditch in an attempt to kill both. Not to worry - he didn't face jail time or anything silly like that. His career continued right on.

Bernard Scott - Cincinnati Bengals

From the old school to the new school, we'd be remiss if we didn't include a Cincinnati Bengal on this list. 2009 sixth-round pick, Bernard Scott, should fit right in with the Bengals considering his rap sheet. The sportsbook odds makers are not expecting him to make the team, but considering he's already been arrested on five separate occasions and he even once hit a coach in college. How nice. They just wouldn't be the Bengals if they didn't reach for players like this.

Drilling Down to Excellence with Quarterback Training

In all levels of the sport, the quarterback is the most important player on the team. His ability to lead the team, play under pressure and perform capably in all situations will decide the fate of a team, raising mediocre squads to great ones or in some situations, bringing down very good teams to average ones. Teaching your quarterbacks the fundamentals will help your entire team improve.

Basic quarterback drills are always important, but there especially important at a young age. This is when habits are formed and basic skills are remembered for the long haul as hardened techniques.

Before your quarterback can effectively throw the ball he has to be able to hold onto the ball. Therefore one of the most basic drills you can start with involves your quarterback holding the ball with one hand and moving it around, over and through his body. Have him change body postures and do it on the move. It will help your quarterback gain a sense of what is and isn't possible and how he has to react in game situations.

A variation on this drill is to have the quarterback do this, while calling out a cadence count and while someone is walking behind them trying to randomly tip the ball out of their hands. This is all about ball control and keeping awareness of your body in space.

Moving up to the next drill you will have to teach your quarterback the proper way to hand the ball off. Line up as the running back behind your quarterback and have him simulate taking a snap, turning around and handing the ball to you. Be sure to show him how to hold the ball during the hand off process and where it needs to be placed, in your stomach where your hands and arms are ready to grasp it.

After practicing the hand off, the quarterback practices a reverse and sweep toss to the running back. This pair of drills is good for multiple quarterbacks; as each one completes it, they fall out and watch the next player do it. As with everything building muscle memory, it's the number of repetitions that matter - everyone should be doing this drill at least ten times.

Another great drill for your quarterbacks will help improve their core body strength and flexibility, while teaching throwing mechanics and form. You can have two of your quarterbacks work on this together, or you can have a quarterback work with a coach. Facing each other at a distance of about ten yards, each player is on one knee with a ball at their opposite foot. The player has to pick up the ball and complete a full throwing motion to accurately complete a pass to the other player.

The goal is that neither player should have to get up and move to catch any of the passes or make any of the throws. You'll be emphasizing accuracy and teaching solid techniques, while building core strength and range of motion. Each player should complete two or three dozen passes, then switch knees and do it again. After a few practice sessions, have the players be down on both knees when performing this drill.
